Camping with a baby is not only possible, but it can be a great way to create adventures with your family. We started camping with a one-year-old in a tent. We were totally winging it. We barely survived. But luckily there are a lot of convenient baby products that have come along recently that make camping with a baby or toddler way more practical.
Foldable High Chair
This camping high chair is a game changer. This was not a thing with my first two babies, but I had one with my last baby and I cannot even tell you how I lived without it. You can use it while camping, but also IRL. We have one and bring it to restaurants, parties, other people’s houses, just everywhere. It is really easy to collapse and has a convenient case with a strap. The feeding area is easy to clean and it has safety straps. This thing is so useful and it is the most portable high chair you could possibly find. This makes this high chair ideal for camping whether you are in a small tent or a massive RV. Or a high end hotel. Or even your own back yard. Basically, if you are having a baby, you need this thing.
Portable Play Yard
This play yard is very portable and lightweight. It will easily fit in your camper or fold up quickly for an outdoor space for your baby or toddler while you are tent or RV camping. It is surprisingly compact when folded. I have seen camping play yards that claim to pop up easily with one hand- but I have not tried those personally and they have a higher price tag. This one is pretty affordable and really is not a lot of effort to set up and is pretty spacious. It is all one piece which is a pro and a con. This makes it very easy to set up. Cleaning is a little tricky since the fabric does not detach from the frame. But my tip for that is to hose it down in your shower with a detachable shower head (I have done this in my residential shower, I don’t know that this would work in an RV shower but your outdoor shower might be a great option). I’m sure if you wanted to go all-out, a power washer would do the trick for a deep clean. If I had to do it over again I would splurge on the version with the shade canopy, but putting this under your RV awning works, too.
Travel Pack and Play Crib
We have had a full sized pack and play in the past, but for the past year camping with a newborn we were gifted a travel sized pack and play for camping. This has so far been great. We may need to move to the full size as the kiddo gets bigger, but I am having a hard time giving up this space saving option. This is a great camper pack and play because it actually fits in the space between our dinette benches when we take the table out. Our camper also has our bed in the slide so we have a huge amount of foot space in our master, and even though the regular pack and play fits, this one gives us so much more space. I will use this thing until the kid is bursting at the seems and we are force to use the bigger one.
Bonus storage- this compact pack and play crib has three depth settings. When your kiddo is a newborn and you can use the bassinet and middle height settings, you can actually store a bunch of baby supplies underneath. RV baby supply storage important. I kept extra diapers, wipes, burp cloths, swaddle blankets, and nursing supplies all between the space under the baby. This was super convenient when space is at a premium.
Portable Exersaucer
I am torn on this one. Finding a camping exersaucer or bouncer is tricky because they can be pricey and bulky, plus babies only use them for a few months at most. But for that time, they can really be a life saver to have, so if you can bring one camping, I highly recommend it.
We have the Oribel Portaplay for camping because I knew this would be a super versatile and practical option. This is a multipurpose exersaucer that turns into a play table with stools. The legs also fold in, making it easy to travel with. This is not not worlds most space-saving, portable, or budget friendly option to be honest, but we really did love it. It is also relatively easy to clean and the height is adjustable as your baby grows. My baby loved it, and it fit under our dinette while on the road. Now it is in his room at home as a play table with stools, which my favorite feature. Babies are only able to use a bouncer for a short time, but we will get years of use out of this!
This foldable baby exersaucer was not available when with had the last kiddo, but I wish it was. This looks like a super portable option with lots of toys and even a shad cover. I have not personally tried this thing, but it looks like you can’t go wrong!
Camping Teether Toys
Okay, these aren’t really a camping hack, but they are cute as anything and you need these.
